About the event
The Asian Jewish Union and the Jackson Jewish Student Organization are proud to host an event on December 2nd at 7:00 PM in the Jackson School GM Room with Dr. Benny Meijer, the foremost rabbi in Indonesia, who will speak about his lived experience and community leadership.
Dr. Meijer’s presentation will trace the 15-year journey of the United Indonesian Jewish Community (UIJC) from 2010 to 2025, highlighting its revival, resilience, and renewal within Indonesia. He will discuss the historical background of Jewish life in the archipelago and the establishment of the UIJC as a federation of autonomous regional communities.
The talk will explore how the UIJC practices a faith-centered Judaism adapted to local culture, supports education initiatives, advances economic sustainability, and fosters leadership development, including notable women’s leadership. Dr. Meijer will also address interfaith relations in Indonesia’s pluralistic society and the use of digital platforms to sustain communal ties.
