About the event

With the support of a $35,000 grant from Hillel International, AJU will host the first-ever regional Asian Jewish Shabbaton from October 24–26, 2025. This landmark gathering will bring together Asian Jewish students from Princeton, Brown, NYU, Brandeis, and Columbia, alongside Yale students, faculty, and community members. The weekend will open with a book talk by Rabbi Angela Buchdahl on her forthcoming work The Heart of a Stranger, followed by Shabbat prayers and an Asian Jewish Shabbat dinner at the Joseph Slifka Center, as well as a performance by Magevet highlighting its Asian Jewish leaders. Saturday programming will include a panel of prominent Asian Jews and community leaders from Asia, cultural activities such as Asian games and kosher Asian snacks, and an archival exhibition on the Jews of Shanghai during the Holocaust curated in collaboration with Yale’s library and archives.

The Shabbaton will be open to all students, faculty, and community…
